SpaceX’s Starship program is forging ahead with exciting developments in the pipeline. The next big milestone, the In-Flight Test 4 (IFT-4), is set to feature Ship 29 and Booster 11, with a potential launch date in May. Ship 29 has already completed a successful static test firing and is now undergoing final preparations for the upcoming mission.
Booster 11 has also completed its static test firing and is now readying for flight. The IFT-4 mission will see Ship 29 reenter the atmosphere and test all systems under maximum heating conditions. This test will be crucial for further refining the Starship’s capabilities for future missions.
In addition to the upcoming IFT-4, SpaceX is already looking ahead to future versions of the Starship. Versions 2 and 3 are currently in development, with Version 2 expected to debut later this year or early next year, boasting improved performance capabilities.
Version 3, aptly nicknamed “The Beast,” is set to be a game-changer in space exploration, with the capacity to carry around 200 tons to orbit in fully reusable mode. Both the booster and ship for Version 3 will see significant upgrades in propellant capacity and total thrust.
Moreover, the Starbase infrastructure is also undergoing upgrades to support the program’s evolving needs. New launch towers and office buildings are being added to enhance operational efficiency.
SpaceX is aiming for a cadence of one launch every two months, with the potential for up to nine flights this year. The Starship program is undoubtedly making strides in pushing the boundaries of space exploration, with ambitious goals for its future development.
