Google recently introduced a new feature that has caught the attention of many Android users – a bottom search bar redesign in the Google app. This redesign, which is part of the Material 3 design, includes an integrated search field at the bottom of the screen.
This is the first time that a bottom search bar has been seen since 2021, and the modernized version in late 2023 includes a pill-shaped tab indicator that is consistent with the iOS version of the app. Additionally, the search field now remains at the top on the actual search results page, with the combined search field and bottom bar using a sheet container.
While the redesign has received positive feedback for giving the app a more modern look, some users have complained about the larger search field taking up space for results. The Google logo is no longer at the top of the screen, and search filters are immediately visible.
Another change worth noting is the use of a default blue tint instead of the Dynamic Color previously used. Overall, the bottom search bar redesign has sparked hope among users for a wider rollout in the future.
It will be interesting to see how this redesign will impact the overall user experience of the Google app, and whether it will be well-received by a wider audience. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development from Google.
