Severe Storms and Tornadoes Sweep Through Midwest and South
Multiple states in the Midwest and South were recently hit with severe storms and tornadoes, leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Portage, Michigan, was one of the hardest-hit areas, with two tornadoes reported to have struck the town, destroying homes and commercial buildings.
The storms also affected Hancock County, West Virginia, and Jefferson County, Ohio, where tornadoes touched down causing damage to property. In West Virginia, the Hancock County Schools were forced to close due to the weather damage.
In Portage, Michigan, a FedEx facility was torn apart by the tornadoes, trapping 50 people inside temporarily. Luckily, no serious injuries were reported in Portage, but more than 20,000 people were left without power as a result of the storm.
Michigan Governor declared a state of emergency for four counties in the state due to the extensive damage caused by the storms. The National Weather Service is currently working to survey the storm damage and confirm tornado touchdowns in Michigan.
The severe weather continued to wreak havoc across the Midwest and South, with a deadly twister hitting Barnsdall, Oklahoma, leaving one person dead and another missing. Oklahoma Governor has pledged $45 million in the state budget to help storm-damaged communities, as the state is still recovering from previous tornado damage in Sulphur and Holdenville.
Journalists from the Associated Press contributed to this report from various locations around the country, providing updates on the ongoing storm damage and recovery efforts. Strong storms are expected to continue throughout the week, prompting residents in the affected areas to stay vigilant and prepared.
