Title: SAG-AFTRA Investigates Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Vincent Gallo in New Film ‘The Policeman’
Vincent Gallo’s latest film, ‘The Policeman,’ has come under scrutiny as multiple female actors have lodged complaints against the actor for alleged misconduct. Following the complaints, SAG-AFTRA, the leading actors’ guild, has launched an active investigation into the matter and has reached out to the film’s production team.
Directed by Jordan Gertner and co-starring James Franco, ‘The Policeman’ sees Gallo portraying the role of Joseph James DeAngelo, known as the Golden State killer. It was during the auditions for the film in November 2023 that the misconduct allegations arose, involving sexually suggestive comments reportedly made by Gallo.
One actress, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims that Gallo told her she should believe she would die if she refused to comply with his requests to perform certain actions. Another actress alleges that Gallo advised her not to protest or voice objections to offensive demands, using the justification that the victim in the film did not have a choice either.
The initial report on these complaints against Gallo was made by Rolling Stone magazine, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations. However, it is important to note that James Franco, who had only a brief presence on set, is not under investigation in relation to the film.
SAG-AFTRA’s investigation aims to ensure the safety and well-being of actors within the industry, particularly in light of recent discussions about accountability and addressing harassment. While it is still early in the investigation, if the allegations against Gallo are proven to be true, it could result in significant consequences for the actor’s career.
Gallo, who gained prominence for his roles in independent films such as ‘Buffalo ’66’ and ‘The Brown Bunny,’ has not yet responded to the allegations. As the investigation unfolds, it will be crucial to see how SAG-AFTRA addresses the complaints and takes appropriate measures to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for all actors involved in ‘The Policeman’ and other future productions.
