Introducing the New Hybrid Electric Ramcharger Pickup from Stellantis
In an exciting development, Stellantis, the multinational automotive company, has announced the upcoming release of its new Ramcharger pickup truck. The buzz around this vehicle stems from its innovative technology – although it’s being touted as an “electric” truck, it is actually a hybrid that combines an efficient gasoline engine with electric components. This strategic move allows Stellantis to offer buyers a range of options to suit their individual preferences and needs.
One of the standout features of the Ramcharger is its series hybrid system, in which the 3.6-liter 6-cylinder gasoline engine is connected to a generator. This generator charges the batteries and also has the ability to send power directly to the electric motors. Unlike traditional hybrids, the gas engine in the Ramcharger is not directly connected to the wheels, giving it unique capabilities and enhancing its efficiency.
When fully charged, the Ramcharger’s batteries can propel the truck for an impressive 145 miles, surpassing the range of most plug-in hybrids currently on the market. Furthermore, with a full battery and a full tank of gas, drivers can enjoy a total range of approximately 690 miles. The vehicle is also equipped to use DC fast chargers, allowing for quick recharge times and minimizing downtime.
Stellantis, not content with just releasing a hybrid model, has also unveiled the fully electric Ram REV. The company recognizes the concerns customers may have regarding range anxiety and is thus offering both options to cater to different preferences. The Ram REV boasts an impressive range of up to 500 miles on a single charge, providing even more peace of mind for those who prefer an all-electric driving experience.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares explained that the decision to offer both hybrid and electric models was influenced by consumer feedback on other electric trucks. By observing the market and customer reactions, Stellantis aims to tailor their offerings to best meet the demands and expectations of consumers.
In terms of pricing, the Ramcharger is expected to carry a lower price tag compared to the Ram REV, primarily due to its smaller battery pack. However, it still offers impressive power with its two electric motors, delivering all-wheel drive capability and even outperforming a gasoline-powered Ram pickup with a V8 engine. Additionally, the absence of mechanical connections in the hybrid truck’s design allows for a flat interior floor, providing more space for comfort and storage.
The Ramcharger and Ram REV are set to enter the market later than some of their competitors’ electric trucks, as Stellantis aimed to take advantage of the delay to gather valuable feedback and insights from consumers. With their new hybrid and electric offerings, Stellantis is positioning itself to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles while providing versatile options that address customer concerns. Stay tuned for the official launch of the Ramcharger and the Ram REV, which promise to revolutionize the pickup truck segment.
