Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis, who had previously played for the Indianapolis Colts and retired midway through a game with the Buffalo Bills, has tragically passed away at the age of 35 in Southwest Ranches, Fla. Davis, who is the brother of Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis, was found dead at his grandmother’s home. Police have stated that no foul play is suspected in his death.
Davis was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2009 and went on to have a successful career in the NFL, earning two Pro Bowl nods during his time with the Colts. However, his career took a turn in 2018 when he signed with the Bills and famously retired during a game in September of that year.
In February of 2023, Davis was charged with a DUI following a crash in Broward County, Fla. Despite his legal troubles, Davis was remembered fondly by those who knew him. Colts owner Jim Irsay mourned Davis’ death, praising him as a great guy, teammate, and player. Illinois assistant basketball coach Chester Frazier also paid tribute to Davis, recalling him as a great person with many good memories.
The sports world has been rocked by the news of Davis’ passing, with fans and former teammates expressing their condolences on social media. Davis leaves behind a legacy as a talented athlete and a beloved friend and family member. Our hearts go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.
