‘Back to the Future: The Musical’ Set to Open on Broadway with Exclusive Sneak Peek of Iconic “Johnny B. Goode” Number
New York, NY – Excitement is building among Back to the Future fans as the hit musical adaptation prepares to make its highly anticipated Broadway debut at the Winter Garden Theatre. “Back to the Future: The Musical,” based on the iconic 1985 film, has been capturing hearts and minds of audiences across the globe, and now it’s time for Broadway to experience the magic.
Jala News has obtained an exclusive sneak peek at one of the show’s most iconic numbers, “Johnny B. Goode,” which will be performed by Casey Likes, who brilliantly portrays the time-traveling teenager Marty McFly. Likes, known for his versatility as an actor, had to undergo intense guitar lessons to perfect his skills and perform the number live on stage.
To prepare for the role, Likes received guitar lessons from Aurelian Budynek, the show’s talented guitarist. Likes expressed his gratitude for the training, saying, “It was definitely a challenge, but Aurelian’s expertise and guidance helped me master the guitar and bring authenticity to the performance.”
The “Johnny B. Goode” scene takes place at a pivotal moment in the musical, as Marty must step in for an injured guitarist at a school dance. Likes revealed that he wanted to honor Michael J. Fox’s portrayal of Marty, but also bring his own unique interpretation to the character. “Instead of doing direct line readings from the original film, I channeled the emotions Fox made me feel when hearing the dialogue,” Likes said.
In addition to Likes’ impressive portrayal of Marty McFly, the Broadway production also stars Roger Bart as the eccentric Doc Brown and Hugh Coles as the lovable George McFly, reprising their roles from the West End production. Liana Hunt, Jelani Remy, and Nathaniel Hackmann are also part of the talented cast, delivering unforgettable performances.
“Back to the Future: The Musical” features a captivating book by Bob Gale and showcases the musical brilliance of Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, who composed the music and lyrics. Fans can expect to hear beloved songs from the original film, such as “The Power of Love” and the electrifying “Johnny B. Goode.”
Silvestri, known for composing the original score for the Back to the Future film trilogy, has once again weaved his magic to create a musical experience that is sure to transport audiences on a nostalgic journey through time and music.
With its Broadway debut just around the corner, “Back to the Future: The Musical” promises to deliver an unforgettable experience filled with familiar tunes, captivating performances, and a fresh take on the time-traveling adventure that has captured the hearts of millions.
