As the total solar eclipse on April 8 draws near, New Yorkers are gearing up to witness this rare celestial event with the help of free eclipse glasses available at select welcome centers and Thruway rest areas across the state. The I Love NY-themed glasses are being distributed at locations including the Finger Lakes Welcome Center, Junius Ponds Service Area, Clifton Springs Service Area, Seneca Service Area, and Pembroke Service Area.
To ensure as many people as possible can safely view the eclipse, there is a limit of two pairs per person while supplies last, with a limited amount being distributed daily. For those looking to purchase additional eclipse glasses, the Rochester Museum & Science Center is selling them for $2.50 per pair.
For those in the Rochester area, there are several locations offering free eclipse glasses, as well as the option to purchase them at the museum. A full list of locations selling eclipse glasses in the area can be found on a specific website.
With the eclipse expected to draw large crowds eager to witness this breathtaking event, be sure to get your hands on a pair of eclipse glasses to safely experience the wonder of the total solar eclipse on April 8.
