Israel Defense Forces launched a military operation at Al-Shifa Hospital in central Gaza, surrounded by about 30,000 people seeking shelter, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. The IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated that they had been waiting for the “right time to act” as they believed Hamas individuals were using the hospital as a headquarters.
An “exchange of fire” ensued between Israeli forces and alleged terrorists barricaded in the hospital, resulting in the deaths of more than 20 people described as “terrorists.” Tragically, an IDF soldier was also killed during the operation. IDF also arrested over 200 “terror suspects” during the operation.
Israel released an edited video of the operation at Al-Shifa Hospital, showing soldiers moving through the building and firing their weapons. However, CNN cannot independently verify the claims in the video, and it remains unclear if the video was filmed in one location as it appears to show multiple places. Additionally, audio has been removed from parts of the edited IDF video.
The situation at Al-Shifa Hospital has intensified tensions in the region, with both sides defending their actions. The Ministry of Health in Gaza has condemned the IDF’s actions, claiming the hospital was a place of refuge for civilians. On the other hand, Israel maintains that they were targeting terrorists using the hospital as a base.
The international community is closely monitoring the situation, urging both sides to exercise restraint and protect the civilians caught in the middle of the conflict. The ongoing violence in the region underscores the need for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
