The Longest Us Women’s Amateur Title Winner Rose Zhang Denies Gabriela Ruffels A Repeat Victory.


A 17-year-old player Rose Zhang was able to defeat 2019 champion Gabriela Ruffels and wins a title of longest US Women’s Amateur. A few days back, Rose Zhang had a left wrist injury which made her think that she needs to leave US Women’s Amateur. So, she did not play for almost 10 days, which turned out to be her best decision and she won the championship.

In last 54 years, Rose Zhang has won the Longest US woman Amateur title on Sunday and denies Gabriela Ruffels a repeat victory. The Australian Player Ruffels wanted to become the first back to back inner of US Women’s Amateur since Danielle Kang in 2011. It was the second-longest match since 1966 where Joanne Gunderson beat Marlene Stewart Streit with 41 holes.[irp]

Ruffels grab the chance to play early in the morning with dropping on 18 holes and she was leading Zhang by 2 holes. After the lunch break also Ruffel was able to keep her momentum by winning many of the points. However, Rose Zhang has quickly gained her momentum and swing back and forth to make her own points in the game. The match took place I Woodmont Country Club.

How did the match go:

Initially, it was looked like the match was completely on Ruffel’s favour until when on 36th hole Zhang breaks off the momentum. Despite making their own mistakes they were matching their shots. After that Zhang was able to move her shot till 38th hole claiming for the longest US amateur winner trophy.

According to Zhang “ Winning the US Amateur means the world to me”. It’s like a dream come true. With this win, Rose Zhang will join Gabriela Ruffel for next year Olympics in Tokyo.
