After Trump opposes to provide any additional money to the postal service to help them deliver mail-in ballots, Senator Bernie Sanders says he will do anything he can to suppress the votes. He admitted on Thursday that he is not willing to give additional funding to United States Postal Service (USPS).
He mentioned that USPS needs money to have the post offices work in order to get ballots. If they don’t get funding and ballots it will mean they won’t be able to have universal mail-in voting because they are not equipped to have it t the moment. Such comments by President will only serve against him and will prove the claims of him deliberately trying to hamstring the USPS.
Sanders attacked Trump by mentioning that he (Trump) and his friends want to suppress votes, make it harder for people to vote so that they can have a chance to win the elections. “Trump may be crazy but he is not stupid. He looks at the polling and he knows he is behind.” Sanders said. His actions are a blatant attempt of mass voter suppression, Sanders added.
His tweet came as a clear depiction of his anger where he said “No, Mr. President. We won’t let you sabotage the election. This is a democracy, not a damn dictatorship. Your reign of authoritarianism will soon end.” He maintained the same expression and said on Thursday that we’ll do everything we can to ensure President’s attempt to suppress voters doesn’t work.
With Trump’s comments that linked the USPS $25 billion funding request to mail-in voting, Senator Bernie Sanders took only a while to say that anyone who believes in Democracy would not support a President who is literally trying to destroy the Postal Service because he does not wants people in the middle of a pandemic to vote.
Insisting on his claims about the fraud f mail-in voting Trump said “They want three and a half-billion dollars for something that will turn out to be fraudulent.”
Without much debate, everyone is aware that Voter fraud exists however it isn’t as large scale as President Claims. At a time of the pandemic, when in-person voting might not be very convincing and safe for people it’s important that arrangements for mail-voting are made for the convenience of Americans during the November elections.
