The highly anticipated Season 20 premiere of the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy aired last night, and fans were thrilled to see Dr. Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson, back in her teaching role at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Bailey’s return to teaching comes as she takes over the position previously held by Dr. Nick Marsh, played by Scott Speedman. In a nod to the show’s first episode, Bailey discusses her “five rules” with the new batch of interns as she imparts her wisdom and guidance upon them.
Showrunner Meg Marinis described Bailey’s return to teaching as a “perfect moment” for the character, explaining that it is a way for her to start over and evolve in her role at the hospital. Marinis further teased that this return to basics and exploring new storylines will not only be Bailey’s focus this season, but that other characters will also be going back to square one.
Marinis hinted that the theme of returning to square one will be a recurring one throughout Season 20, promising fans an exciting and emotional journey as their favorite characters rediscover their passion for medicine and face new challenges.
